Engagement, wedding, new baby — these life events have long provided retailers with an excellent means of tracking consumer behaviors via gift registries. And registries provide retailers with the opportunity to create customized follow-up promotions to “fill in the gaps” for the registrant by offering discounts on those registry items that weren’t purchased.

Retailers are expanding upon registry opportunities and offering graduates a chance to fill out their own registries. Now that the idea has been executed it makes you wonder — what took so long?

We live in an era where online sharing — be it an article, a movie review, a recipe, a cause — is second nature. Walgreen Co. plans to install charging stations at 800 of its stores.
